Hello Internet

Well, I guess I need to write a first post. At least I have plenty of coffee by my desk, maybe it will help me write something, perhaps readable?!

I am Zack, or human name [REDACTED BY THE CIA], and I decided after years of creating stupid shit for the internet to make something perhaps a little bit more meaningful. Something… personal, and thus this website was born. Knowing that most pups are nerds, I’ll go into the technical details of this a bit later, but just so you know, it was the most low-effort website I could make. The reason? Well, I wanted something quick to drop some notes (or confessions) and try to record at least part of my life (well, my dog life).

In terms of content I want to put here, we stick with the basics. I have a photos section where I will (mostly) repost what’s already out there on Instagram without the horrible compression that Instagram does, and maybe a few photos I never shared anywhere else!

Landscapes, portraits, whatever I might feel like it’s worth preserving. (Well, if I remember to renew the domain in a year from now, at least.)

I tend to categorize the photos I take (at least the self-portraits) with emotions. Meaning a set of images reflects my emotional state of that period or day. That’s also how I categorized my last few photos, and usually when I shoot (myself or others), I tend to sing internally a song that really adds to that emotion. Songs are subjectively interpreted, so sometimes it might be a sad song for a happy moment, or vice versa, but I tend to stick with the meaning of the lyrics/songs rather than just the mood of the beat or what the music part of it gives.

The website is created using Hugo, a static page generator. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages (because I ain’t feeling like paying for hosting), and my pictures are uploaded to an S3 endpoint (using R2 Buckets from Cloudflare).

You ask why Cloudflare? Because I’m lazy. If I was getting paid, maybe I’d do it a different way. Despite all that, Cloudflare is awesome, so thumbs-up Cloudflare.

The theme for Hugo is called Console with some changes to fit my style and usage. For example, the 404 page gives you an adorable pup gif looking at you sus for hitting a 404. How fitting!

So yeah, I think it’s time for one corner of the internet to have at least a small serious part of me, mainly because it’s easier to write stuff for strangers on the internet than telling somebody like your friends. Nothing too scary, but keeping a diary in this way means it will can stay forever through shit like the Internet Archive, even if one day I die or something.

This is probably the smallest of the posts I will make here, but yeah, running out of words already.
